PROJECT

China Tang

A major challenge for designers is how to bring the look and feel of luxury in a high-volume setting. So, when a world renowned restaurant wanted to make its Western Hemisphere debut at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the interior design could not disappoint on all levels. The challenge that surfaceLAB™ was asked to solve was the dilemma of achieving the look of rear illuminated onyx panels in the bar area but with better durability and cost.  The design team at YWS Architects in Las Vegas knew that onyx, while beautiful, is fragile and would be prone to damage if used in this high-impact area. That is why surfacePRINT™ was recommended by the local LG Hi-Mac solid surface rep to the YWS team.

surfaceLAB™ worked with the design team on the onyx patterns they wanted and then applied them to the translucent solid surface. In order to get the best match to the natural material, a studio film was also applied on the backside, to add more warmth. Finally, the surfaces were coated with our durable and UV stable labGLASS™ finish to protect against marking and to make cleaning easier.

Backlighting was provided by LEDCONN’s LUXFIT Classic LED light panel in 5300K and were customized to fit the project dimensions. (Photos: LEDCONN)
